After many years of studying the spiritual meaning of the Jewish holidays according to the wisdom of Kabbalah, we found it appropriate to compile fragments from selected sources on the subject of the greatest Kabbalists of all generations, primarily from Rav Yehuda Leib HaLeví Ashlag (Baal HaSulam), and his firstborn son and successor, my teacher, Rav Baruj Shalom HaLeví Ashlag (Rabash). "Milestones on the Path" was compiled to pave the way for all our friends, Kabbalah students from around the world, who aspire to be "Israel" - from the Hebrew Yashar El [directly to the Creator], that is, to address directly the supreme force, the force of bestowal and love.
In Hebrew, the word Jag [holiday/festival] comes from the word Jug, which means to encircle, to rotate. Just as the hands of a clock turn repeatedly, we too must go through spiritual states through a cyclical process. This cycle begins with the Exodus from Egypt, which we celebrate at Passover, which symbolizes the beginning of the process, and ends with the completion of the correction at the Purim holiday.
Each holiday and festival in the cycle of the year symbolize an important stage in the development of the soul, like milestones along the way. With the help of these stages, we learn to know ourselves, to build ourselves, and to experience the spiritual process over and over again.
I am grateful to my students for compiling the excerpts presented here for those who are already on the path, and for those who are yet to come. I hope that their reading will help us all to move the world towards redemption.
